Free Terasa, Abolish ISA!

From http://blog.limkitsiang.com/2008/09/14/free-teresa-abolish-isa/

Please forward to all Malaysians:
http://www.petitiononline.com/freetkok/petition.html

The Barisan Nasional Government has on the 12 September detained Member of Parliament for Seputeh, state assemblywoman for Kinrara as well the senior state executive councillor for Selangor, Sdri Teresa Kok without trial under the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA).

She has been accused of stirring up racial sentiments by instigating residents to petition against mosques in Kinrara and Kota Damansara to lower the volume of their speakers. Teresa has denied these allegations and both mosques have come out to deny these accusations. There is hence absolutely no basis for this arrest. She has already threatened to sue Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, the former Selangor Menteri Besar and Utusan Malaysia for making and publishing these unfounded allegations.

The arrest of Sdri Teresa Kok,Raja Petra Kamaruddin, the Hindraf 5 as well as others is hence arbitrary, high-handed and a mockery of democracy. By labelling Teresa and others as threats to national security without any shred of evidence is a travesty of justice and a gross violation of human rights.

The petitioners hence resolves that the BN government should not use draconian powers under the ISA to cling on to power and demands the immediate and unconditional release of Teresa, Raja Petra, the Hindraf 5 and other detainees. In addition, we the petitioners demand the immediate repeal of the ISA to prevent abuses that oppresses the fundamental liberties of each and every Malaysian.

As loyal and upright Malaysians, sign the petition today!

Racist Got Away with Holiday, Reporter Got Caught under ISA

Sin Chew Daily journalist Tan Hoon Cheng, who reported Ahmad Ismail's "Chinese are Squatters" speech, has been arrested today under the Internal Security Act at 8.30pm at her home in Bukit Mertajam. She is ISA Arrest No.2, after the arrest of Raja Petra (also a Subang Jayan) around 1pm this afternoon.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE REPORTER?
Miss Tan was merely reporting what she witnessed and heard during the by-election campaign. Ahmad DID SAY what he SAID. No "hidden meaning", no other "background history", no "added salt". She was just REPORTING THE TRUTH!

CAUGHT WRONG PERSON - SHOULD BE AHMAD ISMAIL!
Dear Government, what did Tan do wrong? Why is she being detained under ISA for telling the truth to the public? The REAL wrong-doer Ahmad Ismail got away with just 3 years suspension of "club membership" after all his RACIST + PROVOCATIVE + NATIONAL-PEACE-THREATENING statements and actions. Why such obvious Double Standard? He is the ONE should be detained under ISA (if ISA is to be used)!

GOVERNMENT'S HIDDEN AGENDA?!
The UMNO-controlled Government is frightening the Reporters so that nobody will report anything WRONG done / said by UMNOputra. This is a pre-emptive measure since there will lots of such statements coming out in the coming UMNO General Meeting. There are many more "Ahmad Ismail" in UMNO will be singing the same song to earn their political support from the UMNOputra for personal gain!

ALL PRESS MUST STAND TOGETHER NOW!
You all must support your fellow worker Tan Hoon Cheng! If you give in again (like most mainstream media do for ages), Malaysian journalists will no longer earn any respect from the Rakyat. Furthermore, you are doing the right thing to report the TRUTH and not fear of the threat. Otherwise, Rakyat will not KNOW what is actually happening!

WE MUST SUPPORT SIN CHEW & TAN HOON CHENG!
All Malaysians must support Sin Chew Daily and Tan Hoon Cheng for their courage to report the TRUTH to the Rakyat. We cannot let such TRUTHFUL & NEUTRAL Press goes down again (like happened in 80's). Otherwise, we will continue as we were before March-8th : we only know what Government (Barisan Nasional) wants us to know, unless you are internet-savvy (which 75% Malaysian population are not).

SUPPORT SIN CHEW IN ACTION
We urge all Subang Jayans & all Malaysians to support Sin Chew with any constructive method you can. If you are not sure what to do, you can at least do the following:

Starting from today, buy Sin Chew Daily everyday even if you can't read Chinese!

This is the easiest way to demonstrate support from Rakyat to a truthful and just Press. You can at least do this until Tan is released. Otherwise, just STOP buying those BN papers (if you have not stop yet). STOP even buying other papers if they do not speak up for Miss Tan.

FREE THE JOURNALIST!
FREE RAJA PETRA!
SAY NO TO ISA!

Latest Update : Tan Hoon Cheng has been released Sep 13 afternoon. She is now safely in her house in Bukit Mertajam. (MalaysiaKini 04:19pm 13-Sep)

Keshminder, Why Are You in Subang Jaya Zone?

We don't understand why PKR Councillor Keshminder Singh is a Councillor for Subang Jaya / MPSJ.

According to Hannah's explanation in her blog, MPSJ has informed Hannah that Keshminder Singh and another PKR councillor insisted to be in the Subang Jaya zone. As a result of this, Datuk Dr. N. Subramaniam who represents the USJ Residents’ Association has now been assigned to a zone in Seri Kembangan.

Datuk Dr. N. Subramaniam is a Subang Jayan, Resident's leader, and a rightful Subang Jayans' representative! Why is Keshminder Singh who is from 86, Jalan SS 23/21, Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya has the right to "insist" to be in the Subang Jaya zone? If he wants to be part of Subang Jaya, please move to Subang Jaya first and be an elected leader before ask for anything!

Keshminder, Subang Jaya's representative is RESERVED for Subang Jayans only!

MPSJ Board Meeting : What's the Big Deal about Reserved Seats?

In MPSJ Full Board Meeting on 28 August, PKR Councillor Keshminder Singh protested our ADUN Y.B. Hannah Yeoh for seated at the reserved place for councillors. It was reported in major English papers e.g. The Star and also in Hannah's blog.

It's a Reserved Place, so WHAT?
First of all, we are very disappointed for Keshminder childish and immatured over-reacting behaviour. Would matured professional such as Hannah Yeoh would have seated at a known Reserved Place if she was not permitted at the first place? Keshminder should first check the fact first : she has seeked for permission before she occupied place!

He should be spending more effort in checking for abuse of people's fund (i.e. misuse Subang Jayans' money without permission) instead of protesting over "seating on Reserved Place"! Didn't he have more important thing to do?

Hannah Yeoh : our People's Representative!
Secondly, Hannah knew that she was there only as an observer. In particularly, she was being a responsibled People's Representative for attending this meeting on our behalf. Would you want ALL SUBANG JAYANS to flood the place to check out what you guys are talking in the meeting instead of having ONE Hannah Yeoh who is our Representative to be there, Keshminder?

Hannah knew what's right and wrong to do therefore she didn't even utter a word during her presence in the board meetings. We don't understand why Keshminder raised issue about elected representatives were not allowed to interfere with the running of the local governments. That's the problem when the local governments are not ELECTED! Heh, Keshminder, you are responsible to us : Subang Jayans, not MPSJ or yourself!

Councillors : Should Be Elected, Too!
Lastly, again and again, we urged the Government of Selangor to speed up the realization of Election of Local Government. This will ensure local governments are put in the hands of the People's choice of Management and they are answerable directly to the People! Councillors, especially, should be elected too for we don't want immatured and childish bureaucrats like Keshminder and Tan Jo Hann to be in MPSJ Board wasting our precious resources and limited RESERVED SEATS!

Salute to Permatang Pauh!

All Subang Jayans should salute to the Voters of Permatang Pauh for the great victory to Pakatan Rakyat and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ("DSAI") in its by-election yesterday.

First Salute
Just as our ADUN Y.B. Hannah Yeoh said in her speech when addressing the crowd at Seberang Jaya while campaigning for DSAI: "...the hope of the people of Subang Jaya was in the hands of the Permatang Pauh voters...". Indeed, the hope of the Rakyat of Malaysia were in the hands of the Permatang Pauh voters. And, thank God, they did not disappoint us!

Salute to Permatang Pauh!

Second Salute
Despite of all the dirty tricks played by the ruling party, all the monetary attractions pumped in through the public funds, and all the machineries mobilized by the Government, the voters of Permatang Pauh were not blindly bought in to all these means. They were far sighted, great vision, and clear thought. They were not fooled and they made the right choice : the Rakyat's choice!

Salute to Permatang Pauh!

Third Salute (and most important one)
This round, all Rakyat despite of races were voted for the Rakyat's choice : DSAI, even the Kampung Melayu (who usually supports UMNO). Most importantly, the Malay voters are voting for the Rakyat's choice and for change, despite of all the calling for "Ketuanan Melayu" and "Preservation of Malay rights" by UMNO. They want to be inline with the whole nation : we all wanted change from racial politics to "Rakyat politics". This is the greatest gift to Subang Jayans and the whole of Malaysia for our 51st Merdeka celebration from Permatang Pauh!

Salute to Permatang Pauh!

What Government's "Subsidies" Really Is?!

APPLE FARM & FREE APPLES
A man called Maha owns a farm which can produce 10 apples every day.
He has 5 workers to operate the farm. Each of them eats 1 apple daily and it is enough to keep them operating the farm normally. The remaining 4 apples, the landlord sells them at RM10 each and he earns RM40. He uses the RM25 to improve the farm operation and facilities.
He gives RM2.00 to each of his workers and he keeps the remaining RM5.00 as profit. Day by day, the farm is well developed and all of the 5 workers are happy with the money they can save.

NEW LANDLORD
When Maha passed away and there is a new landlord, Abdul comes to continue the farm operation. He says to the workers:" We need to improve the farm quality and redefine our way of thinking. From now on all of you only need to pay RM1.00 for each apple you eat.
It is very cheap as the price is RM10 each outside the farm."

PAYS FOR APPLES
The workers have no choice but to pay RM1.00 for the apple they eat daily. Their earning decrease from RM2.00 to RM1.00 per person. As usual, Abdul sells the 4 apples and he gets RM40. He uses RM25 for farm improvement and pays RM10 to his 5 workers. He gets RM5.00 as profit. On top of that, he gets another RM5.00 from the apples that he sells to his workers. In total, he gets RM10 as profit every day.

PRICE INCREASE
Soon, the apple price increases to RM20 each. The new landlord gets a higher profit as he gets RM80 for the 4 apples he sells daily. Then, he decides to give the farming improvement contract to one of his close friend, Samy. Samy says:"Apple cost naik, improvement cost also misti naik." So, the farm improvement cost increases from RM25 to RM50. In actual, the improvement only cost RM30. The remaining RM20, Abdul and Samy share evenly among themselves.

MORE PROFITS
Let's calculate how much Abdul gets daily:-
+ RM10 (from farm improvement cost)
+ RM20 (Net profit by selling 4 apples: [Gross profit, RM80] – [Improvement cost, RM50] – [Wages RM10] = RM20)
+ RM5 (from selling apples to his workers)

In total, Abdul gets RM35 daily compare to RM10 initially when he takes over the farm from Maha.
His profit increases RM25 and the workers are still getting RM1.00 daily per person.

FURTHER PRICE HIKE
The greedy Abdul does not want to stop there. One day, he says to his fellow workers:" You see ah, the current market price for one apple is RM20 and you are only paying RM1. See how lucky you are! I have to SUBSIDY RM19.00 for each of the apple you buy and total I need to SUBSIDY RM95.00. This will greatly burden the farm and we might get bankrupt if we continue like this. In order to avoid bankruptcy, I need to increase the apple price that you buy from RM1.00 to RM1.50 and I will bare the remaining RM18.50 per apple as my subsidy to you all. "

So, greedy Abdul adds RM2.50 to his current profit and the number becomes RM37.50.

SMKSU, Be Independent From Politics!

SCHOOLS, THE SACRED PLACE
In many nations, in many cultures, in many ages, SCHOOLS have always been treated as the 'sacred places' for Learning, Education, and Development of Mankind. Children go to schools to learn more knowledge, more skills, also better values so that they will be better human being when they grown up. Therefore, we must always ensure that our schools teach the best knowledge, most relevant skills, and also right values to our children.

Sadly, the school that many of us were nurtured in Subang Jaya to be the better person we are now has been corrupted and polluted : Sekolah Menangah Kebangsaan Subang Utama (formerly Subang Jaya 2) or SMKSU.

HANNAH BANNED FROM REUNION
Our dear ADUN YB Hannah Yeoh, former Head Prefect of SMKSU 1995/96, also one of our best students, and the role model of our children has been discriminated and being barred from Prefects' Reunion of SMKSU this year by some teachers. The latest update is that existing prefects and other school teachers who attend this event will also be sacked.

Read Original Posting here! http://hannahyeoh.blogspot.com/2008/06/smksu-prefects-reunion.html
Read Latest Updates here! http://hannahyeoh.blogspot.com/2008/06/set-our-schools-free.html

BAD EXAMPLE OF TEACHERS
Since when the SCHOOLS or TEACHERS or even STUDENTS are allowed to choose side on Political Parties? If the Teachers are to choose side, they should be siding the TAX PAYORS who are paying their salary! Schools and Teachers are suppose to stay independent and uphold integrity so that school children will be properly educated in all right aspects of knowledge, skills and values.

From this incident, we clearly sees that the few teachers of SMKSU who ordered such 'ban' are not qualified to teach or work in schools! They do not know what is the right thing to teach and the right values to propogate. The example they demonstrated in this incident is a disgrace to the Teachers of this nation! They have caused the Rakyat to loose respect on Teachers!

IT'S PRIVATE FUNCTION
Furthermore, this Reunion is a PRIVATE function, not a SCHOOL ACTIVITY. How could the school authorities restrict the attendance of school teachers or students to private function that are harmless, proper and lawful?! Does that mean we have to start applying for school's approval to have our ex-classmates yearly Hari Raya gathering or Chinese New Year reunion at our own home? This is outrageous!

SMKSU WAS A GANGSTER SCHOOL
We would like to remind the few teachers that SMKSU was a lousy, gangster school in the early 90's. All of us were reluctant when being assigned to the school from SMKSJ. Some of our friends rather applied to transfer to PJ schools instead of going to SMKSU (SMKSJ2 at that time). For those of us who stayed on, we did well and turned the school's name from "lousy, gangster school" to "good, preferred school" in just a few years! Many of us here at Subang Jayan were even scholars / sponsored students to our higher education at universities. The prefects did a great job in school disciplines and given us a good environment for learning and studies! The school authorities should be proud of all the students and prefects, not forgetting all the teachers who work together hard enough to improve the school's reputation, and not discriminating by political parties!

STOP BEING BIAS, STAYS INDEPENDENT!
Therefore, all of us here at Subang Jayan hereby urged all Subang Jayans to :
(1) rebuke such unreasonable action of the few teachers that ordered the 'ban';
(2) rebuke and stop school authorities from taking side on political parties and stay independent;
(3) support all teachers and prefects and ex-prefects who are attending the reunion, including YB Hannah Yeoh.

May 13 : No Longer A Fearful Date

“May 13”, a date or rather a term that was “sensitive” to mention in multi-racial places. Especially to the Chinese community, it was a date to be remembered with FEAR and CAUTIOUS. In the past General Elections, BN always like to use this term to remind the non-Malay community of the darkest moment of our nation racial history. It was a tactic, and quite a successful one (in the past), to create fear among the voters when the Opposition seems have great chance to win.

In every General Election, when the Opposition seems to be STRONG and likely to WIN, the rumours started to spread. Somehow, BN parties such as MCA would “preach” that “Malaysia cannot afford to have another May 13” therefore “do not vote Opposition such as DAP”. Even the recent 12th General Election, we can still hear sayings about possible May 13 incident even Opposition win BIG this time. Our paranoid parents and uncles and aunties in Subang Jaya started to store food from Giants when Election day approached.

Well, the curse has been broken.

On March 8th/9th, Opposition won BIG – it was a Political Tsunami in Malaysia. Despite of SMSes saying places such as Klang has “incidents”, despite of phone calls from relatives and friends from overseas asking whether any riot happening, NOTHING HAPPENED! Malaysians witnessed a peaceful TSUNAMI in Malaysian’s political arena. The Opposition supporters were urged not to celebrate or parade publicly to avoid tension. Everybody was calm and steady!

May 13 is OFFICIALLY HISTORY! We no longer have to worry about May 13 as Malaysians have proven to be matured, racial-harmonized, and united for CHANGE. BN can no longer use this term is future Elections to frighten the Rakyat and voters. Nobody has to fear to cast their votes to their Party of choice even it is Opposition.

Malaysians, we are FREE from May 13 !!!

Hannah Yeoh Officially Sworn In

After 45 days being elected as the new State Assemblywoman (ADUN) for Subang Jaya, Y.B. Hannah Yeoh has finally sworn in in the State Assembly on 22 April 2008 (Tuesday).

Exerted from Hannah's blog : "Kepada Tuhan saya berserah" Those were the last 4 words of my oath as I was officially sworn in...

As the New Kids on the Block, Hannah and many others among the 36 Pakatan Rakyat's ADUNs have made the State Assembly of Selangor a historical day - with the most number of new ADUNs.

Furthermore, many remarkable "first-times" took place on this historical day at Selangor DUN.

For the first time, we have non-BN ADUNs (cannot call Opposition party anymore) more than BN ADUNs in the Assembly.
For the first time, we have BN as the Opposition party in the Assembly.
For the first time, we have non-BN Speaker (Y.B. Teng Chang Khim - also a Subang Jayans) in the Assembly.

We can expect many exciting sessions in Selangor DUN coming up soon starting from May. With this huge number of Pakatan Rakyat's ADUNs, BN's ADUNs can no longer be LAZY in attending the Assemblies. Also, more constructive and quality debates can be expected as stiff competitions between PR and BN are expected.
With this, we wish our very own Y.B. Hannah Yeoh : ALL THE BEST and GOD BLESS in representing Subang Jayans in State Assembly of Selangor.

REMARK:
What would you be expecting from Hannah and her performance in the State Assembly? Share your opinion with us!

Hannah Yeoh's Election Campaign Account

CLEAN & TRANSPARENT
As promised, Y.B. Hannah Yeoh, ADUN of Subang Jaya, has published her Statement of Income and Expenditure for her Election Campaign. This is a model example of a CLEAN and TRANSPARENT representative of the Rakyat. The statement can be obtained at http://www.dapsj.com/files/Accounts_-_Hannah_Yeoh%27s_Campaign_130408-1.pdf.

GENEROUS SUBANG JAYANS
The statement showed that Subang Jayans were quite generous in their contributions to Hannah & Team for their Election Campaign in the 12th General Election. Knowing the Pakatan Rakyat's component parties such as DAP are not in the luxury of having tons of campaign funding but relying on every single cents collected from the Rakyat, Subang Jayans who wanted the CHANGE supported Hannah's Campaign generously with a total of RM124,510 donation collected.

CAREFUL SPENDING CAMPAIGN
As the Funding are limited, Hannah & Team were very careful in their spending. The Ads & Publicity and Printing costs which were the largest component of any Election Campaign only consumed 25% of the Total Income. Other expenditures were obviously "absorbed" by Hannah & Team without claiming e.g. Transport and Travel RM378 only and Phone/Internet RM30 only.

SURPLUS "BACK" TO THE SUBANG JAYANS
With the generous donations and careful spending, a great surplus of almost RM90K i.e. 72% of Total Income were left for the used for the on-going operations of Hannah's service centre in SS 14 . Well, the service centre was setup for the Rakyat of Subang Jaya - that definitely included the kind and generous Subang Jayans who donated! So, kindness will be returned to the kind contributors!

Well Done, Y.B. Hannah & Team! Keep it Up!

Hannah Yeoh & Her First 30 Days

On March 7th (Friday), a day before the 12th General Election (GE12), Hannah posted her post-election plans and visions in her blog stated the certainty of a DAP Subang Jaya branch regardless of the election result, and the conversion of her campaign operation center into her service center if she won.

On March 9th (Sunday) 3am, the result of the votes have told to her that Subang Jayans do support her cause.

GET ON TO WORK IMMEDIATELY
Unlike usual winners of any competition or election, Hannah did not have big scale celebration party (might be a waste of money to do so) or take a week vacation to enjoy her victory. She straightaway started working on fulfilling her visions and plans, and of course, her promises to Subang Jayans.

The very first task of hers was to setup the Service Center as she has promised.

FIRST DAP SERVICE CENTER IN SUBANG JAYA
In just 5 days after the GE12 on March 13th, she announced the official opening of her service center in SS14 beginning March 18th. So, in just 10 days after the GE12, Hannah marked her first fulfillment of her promises with the commencement of her service center on that Tuesday evening.

DOMESTIC ISSUES
In this past 30 days, Hannah has actively involved in several events and activities in relation to Subang Jaya's domestic issues. She has also started to work with MPSJ to tackle the Subang Jayans' issues and problems. She made her first appearance in MPSJ weekly "Mesra Rakyat" session on April 4th. Exactly after a month after winning the Subang Jaya Constituency, she walked straight into another battleground : the fight with DENGUE menace, and initiating the "10 minutes clean up your surrounding" this Saturday, April 12th.

POOR & NEEDY
While tied up with battling the domestic issues, Hannah did not forget her promise to look out for the needy group in our township. She visited Angsana Flat in USJ1 on April 7th and spent 3 hours visiting widows and orphans. She has also started "humanity initiative" with her calling to all Subang Jayans to help these families and collating the offers of aids with the best way to help them.

MANY MORE ON THE WAY
If you still have her campaign brochure with you, you will certainly say : "THERE IS STILL A LONG LIST TO GO". Well, she agreed. In her interview by SJ Echo, she has spelled a long "to-do-list". In her words : "I do not believe that our role is to do everything, even right down to settling domestic issues. Issues that fall within the ambit of my work, I will handle efficiently and speedily."

WELL DONE & KEEP IT UP !!!
It was only 30 days. To many workers who just started a new job in a new company, it was only the first pay cycle and was still on "learning phase". For Hannah, while she is learning to be our ADUN, she has started her contributions to Subang Jaya even though was still insignificant in the beginning. What we'd like to say here is :
"YB Hannah Yeoh, Well Done @ your first month! Keep it up!"

Ever wander in the so-called "Elite" and "Middle-Class" township of Subang Jaya, there are people live in Poverty around us?! There are those who surviving with only RM200-RM300 per month for their family - the price you paid for one nice family meal in a classy restaurant at Taipan.

PAS to become Backbone of Pakatan Rakyat

April 4 - The Kedah and Terengganu PAS Youth movements supported the proposal by Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yaakub that PAS becomes the backbone of the Pakatan Rakyat to realise the objective of forming an Islamic state.

See news details from Bernama (English) or Sin Chew Daily (Mandarin).

PAS : MORE QUALIFIED TO LEAD
National PAS Youth vice-head Azman Shapawi Abdul Rani said PAS should be the backbone of the coalition as the party had been in existence much longer than Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP. In addition, the majority of the people in the country were Muslims and many of them had become leaders currently, he told Bernama, here Friday. Based on these factors, he said PAS was more qualified to lead the coalition compared to the PKR which was a very young party, he said.

DISPUTE WITH DAP?
Azman, who is also the Terengganu PAS Youth head, said the proposal would be discussed at the national level at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur soon. Asked whether the proposal would result in a dispute within the coalition, especially the DAP which had always been against the formation of an Islamic state, Azman said the matter would be studied thoroughly and discussed among the three component parties of the Pakatan Rakyat.

PAS : REALIZATION OF ISLAMIC STATE
Meanwhile, Kedah PAS Youth head Musaddak Ahmad said he was confident of PAS' capability in leading the coalition by highlighting the Islamic concept in national administration. In fact, the party was not only holding the Menteri Besar's post in Kelantan, but in Kedah and Perak too, and this proved that the party was capable of providing the leadership." As such, PAS should become the backbone of the coalition to realise the objective of forming an Islamic state," he said.

PAS, BE CAREFUL!
As the coalition of Pakatan Rakyat is still at its infancy stage, such statements are putting the coalition into great test especially to DAP who has been consistently defended the Secular State status of Malaysia and refusal to Islamic State. Looks like serious and in-depth discussions between DAP, PAS and PKR are required soonest possible to clear the sky. Otherwise, BN (especially MCA) will bite DAP on this very soon.

Furthermore, even though PKR is relatively fairly young in terms of party's "age" compared to PAS, the party leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim and Syed Husin Ali are old timers in Malaysian politic arena. Azman's claim is lack of maturity and understanding on the Rakyat's choice. Just like our ADUN Hannah Yeoh : AGE is not an issue !!!

Syariah Bench for Non-Muslim?

Proposal to Punish non-Muslims for Khalwat
Yesterday, Islamic Institute of Understanding Malaysia (Ikim) and the Syariah Judiciary Department Malaysia (JKSM) proposed that non-Muslims committing khalwat with Muslims should also be sentenced accordingly, but in the civil courts. They also proposed to setup "Syariah Bench" in the civil courts to handle cases involved people of different religions. These were among the proposals made at the two-day seminar organized by them.

Syariah Law Not For Non-Muslims
According to the Federal Constitutions Article 121(A), Syariah Court's jurisdiction is restricted to Muslims only. Syariah Law should not be applicable to non-Muslims as non-Muslims are subject to civil laws. Even though Khalwat is widely recognised as immoral act by many religions and societies, nonetheless, it is not a civil offence under the civil law in Malaysia. If this proposal is to be accepted, what'd be coming next? This is an implied way of imposing Syariah Law on non-Muslims.

Malaysia : Secular State, Multi-Racial, Multi-Religion
Even though there were various versions of claims on whether Malaysia is an Islamic State within Barisan Nasional (UMNO said Yes, MCA said No), component parties in Pakatan Rakyat (especially DAP) had many times proclaimed that Malaysia is a Secular State with Islam as the official religion but not an Islamic State.

We are a multi-racial and multi-religion country. We should respect each other ways of living and faith. No one should impose their own Religion Laws on the others who are not of the same religion and do not believe in the same faith.

Pakatan Rakyat = DAP + PAS + PKR

April 1 - Finally, after months since the People's Parliament proposed the term "Barisan Rakyat", and after weeks of being used by the Rakyat "unofficially", the three Malaysian Opposition parties (also Ruling parties in 5 States), i.e. DAP, PAS, and PKR, have agreed to enter into a formal coalition, called Pakatan Rakyat (People's Pact).

Meeting attended by the Parties' Leaders today, i.e. YB Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim of PKR, YB Lim Kit Siang of DAP, and YB Dato' Seri Tuan Guru Haji Abdul Hadi Awang of PAS, made the announcement in the Press Conference this afternoon.

The forming of this coalition also marked the "official" beginning of the 2-party system era i.e. Barisan Nasional vs Pakatan Rakyat. The voting pattern of the Malaysian voters in 12th General Election has already indicated such sign i.e. voters are voting in 2-party manner either Barisan Nasional or Barisan Rakyat then - irregardless of the candidate is from DAP, PAS or PKR. That's why we can see non-Malay voters are casting votes for PAS while Malay voters are casting votes for DAP.

A convention of all Pakatan Rakyat MPs and ADUNs will be held on April 27. What we might be able to see, soon, would be the a unify logo for Pakatan Rakyat.

Nonetheless, unlike BN, all component parties in Pakatan Rakyat are equal in power and authority. Whilst in BN, UMNO is the leading party that sits on top of the rest of component parties. All the rest such as MCA and MIC have to "listen" and "obey" to UMNO. However, some commented that this form of coalition (PR) might be fragile and requires lots of wisdom, compromise and tolerance to keep the coalition together.

Check out the official press releases from Pakatan Rakyat component parties and some news coverage:-

With this coalition formed, Malaysians have now two Lions that we can choose from (See Parable of the Lions and the Wolf ) and no longer be only limited to one single blood-sucking Wolf. We can make our choice!

DAP Perak : Siva Retracted Resignation (updated)

NEWS EARLIER TODAY
March 31 - Early today, newly-elected Perak ADUN A. Siva from DAP has announced his resignation from all DAP official posts and quite the Party with immediate effect today. He was unhappy that DAP Perak did not keep their promise to allocate two (2) State Exco posts to Indian ADUNs. Only one (1) single Indian was appointed to Perak's State Cabinet.

The news details were available at:
MalaysiaKini (members only) http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/80617
Sin Chew Daily (Mandarin only) http://www.sinchew.com.my/node/59866?tid=1

Subang Jayans were concerned that it looks like Non-Race-Based Politic is still quite a challenge in Malaysia even among Barisan Rakyat. Nonetheless, we are moving towards this direction as proven by our votes during 12th General Election. Therefore we urge : Let's continue the Change and never Quit !

LATEST UPDATE
Nevertheless, hours after the news breakout, A. Siva has then announced that he retracted his resignation and it was purely a misunderstanding. We hope he understood that the Rakyat of Perak has chosen the parties in Barisan Rakyat not based on the composition of the Races but rather the capability and the integrity of the parties. Most importantly, it was because of the Multi-Racial composition of these parties instead of the Races that they represent (like BN). Otherwise, what's the difference of voting Barisan Rakyat instead of BN?

Subang Jayans, Let's Join Earth Hour 2008

SYDNEY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN 2007
On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE YOU CAN MAKE IN 2008
In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

SUBANG JAYANS, LET'S LEAD THE CHANGE
We'd like to invite all Subang Jayans to join us and this global conservation event. You can do the following from 8pm to 9pm on March 29 (Saturday):-

1. Turn off all the lights. You can come out to the street if you are scared of dark. In fact, it'd be a great scene from the air or tall building to see the whole Subang Jaya in darkness.
2. Turn off all air-conditioning and fan. You can go outside of the house / building if you need cool air.
3. Turn off TV / Astro / Radio / DVD / VCD and PC / Laptop and... whatever entertainment applicances. It'd be a good time to catch up with your family without these distractions.
4. Turn off any other electrical appliances that you'd not require to use.

Nonetheless, we do not encourage you to turn off your refrigerator because it will cause more electricity (hence more heat) when you turn on after an hour. It may take 15-30 minutes of "hardwork" (high usage of electricity) to "cool down" again.

Preserve our Environment for our Future and the Future Generations!

Know Your MP : Loh Gwo-Burne

He burst into the limelight during the V. K. Lingam Royal Commission hearing as the man who shot the video. Loh Gwo-Burne was again in the limelight when he stood as a candidate for the Kelana Jaya parliamentary constituency against the highly-experienced Datuk Lee Hwa Beng and emerged the victor.Days have passed since and naturally, people are curious about the 34-year-old newcomer to Malaysian politics. The Malaysian Insider speaks to the UK-born businessman-turned-politician who did not vote in the elections he ran in and won.

Get to know more about your MP, fellow Subang Jayans! Read this exclusive interview with YB Loh at The Malaysian Insider : Loh Gwo-Burne in his own words .

Raja Petra Lost Suit : War on Bloggers Begin?

MARCH 26 - High Court Alor Star has ordered blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, group chief editor and editor of PKR’s Suara Keadilan to pay a total of RM7mil to Universiti Utara Malaysia and its vice-chancellor Tan Sri Dr Nordin Kardi for libel. The order was granted after Raja Petra and the tabloid's representative or their counsel failed to appear in court.
Nordin told the reporter that his action would inspire others including politicians and artistes to take legal action against people who abused blogs. "Those who indiscriminately hurled slander in their blogs should also take this as a lesson that they would not escape the law."

Read more details at The Malaysian Insider.

"Actually, Nordin did not win his case. It was the other way around. I 'threw' the case." Check out Raja Petra's explanation at Malaysia Today.

Will this trigger the war against the Bloggers? Subang Jaya is known of producing famous bloggers - Raja Petra, Jeff Ooi, etc. Looks like Subang Jayans have to pay attention to the development of this "war". Let's see...

No Quit-Rent for Places of Worship

MPSJ : RM 1,000 ANNUAL PERMIT
On February 18th, an article in The Sun has revealed that MPSJ draft local plan proposed to introduce Annual Permit of RM1,000 to all shop and factory lots used for worship purposes. It was reported after Seputeh MP Teresa Kok issued a statement urging the churches in MPSJ to take serious concern on this draft plan and former Subang Jaya ADUN Lee Hwa Beng responded with 'clarification'.

TIME FOR CHANGE
Our ADUN Hannah Yeoh was gripped by this issue and poured her thoughts on her blog : The Cost of Free Workship. Here quoted "The Federal Constitution clearly provides for an individual’s right to profess and practice his religion. If there is a need to apply for permit, we immediately assume a possibility of rejection. Freedom to practice one's religion is violated the moment a law is imposed to restrict such freedom." She ended the statement with a calling to the Rakyat : "Time for Change".

On March 8th, Subang Jayans did the change. Today, we see the first positive effect.

FIRST STEP : NO QUIT-RENT
March 26 - Today, our new Selangor MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has announced that there will be no more quit rent and assessment rates for all registered places of worship in Selangor, and a token annual fee of only RM1 will be introduced instead. Even though this is only limited to registered places of worship at this stage (which there are probably only one Buddist Temple and one Church in Subang Jaya 'qualified'), this move shown that the new Selangor Government (Barisan Rakyat) is more caring and considerate to religious matters.

MORE TO COME ?
Since these two decades, it has been difficult for religious organizations to apply land for temples and churches. Many have to use shophouses and factory lots as places of worship. Most are still required to pay quit-rent and assessment due to the places occuppied are under commercial or industrial lands. As religious places are non-profit based, it'd help the Rakyat of these religious bodies greatly if the quit-rent exemption can be extended to the shophouses/factory lots temples/churches. We hope that YB Hannah can bring this up to the Selangor Government and State Assembly after she has sworn-in formally as our ADUN.

Subang Jayans, thank you for the CHANGE !!!

Time to Go Beyond the Old Taboos (Farish Noor)

Over the past weeks since the Rakyat have voted for a stronger Opposition force in Dewan Rakyat (82 Opposition MPs) and handed over 4 State Governments (Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor) to Barisan Rakyat (DAP-PAS-PKR), many issues surrounding the choice of leaderships were surronding on the race and religious background of the Parties, Leaders, and Representatvies. While the Rakyat have chose to move towards a "Malaysian-Malaysian" Malaysia through their votes, these recent dramas have shown negative and disappointing scenes.

From the Chief Minister in Penang, to the appointment of Menteri Besar in Perak, and now the Deputy MB and the number of State EXCO in Selangor DUN, the leaders in the Nation are still restraint by the race and religious background of the individuals in the appointments. Instead of performance, talents and ideology, the "kaum" element still supercedes the earlier which are more important in the selection of leaders and representatives.

"We need a new Malaysian politics that would breathe new life and faith in the political system, and where all of us – mainly on the basis of our universal citizenship – can claim to be stakeholders in the nation-building process."

Dr. Farish A. Noor, a renown writer and commentator has recently published an article "CMs, DPMs and PMs: Time to go beyond the old taboos" commented on this matter with great awakening message to the Rakyat and the Leaders. Boycott Main Stream Media

A CALL TO BOYCOTT MSM
"From 24th March, 2008, commence a boycott of all the MSM for a period of one week! I urge that if at the end of that one-week boycott, the MSM continues to unjustifiably attack our YBs, we resume our boycott of the MSM for a longer and more sustained period!"

WHY BOYCOTT ?
During the Election Campaign of Hannah Yeoh, there have been various callings to the Subang Jayans to boycott the Main Stream Media (MSM) because MSM were not being fair and independant in their news coverage. In particularly the BN-controlled MSM such as Utusan, Berita Harian, and NST (UMNO), The Star (MCA), Media Prima (TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9) have been over bias and being instrumental for BN to broadcast their news, ads + messages. Worst of all, RTM - being the Government news media instead of BN news media - have been broadcasting numerous negative ads about the DAP-PAS-PKR leaders and short documentary praising about BN-Government achievements.

Therefore, in conjunction with Haris Ibrahim's calling, Hannah's Political Secretary Edward Ling has call out to the Subang Jayans again to boycott the MSM especially the "lying newspapers" for a week starting 17-March to 23 March 2008.

JUST NEWSPAPERS ?!
We must acknowledged that not only the newspapers were bias and "lying", the TV and Radio channels too. If you were one of those who were relying on the TV channels to bring news on the Election Result on 8-March to 9-March, you must be one of the confused and frustrated viewer : every SMS you received was about BN loosing seats, every phone calls you got was about DAP or PKR winning crucial seats, but here you heard only BN-winning news on the TV. That's why we only could rely on the Internet Independent Media such as MalaysiaKini to provide us newsfeed on that night.
Therefore. the boycott should not be limited to only the newspapers, but to include the RTM1 and RTM2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, Bernama TV (Channel 502 Astro) and all the related Radio Channels. The most effective one might be : BOYCOTT NEWS HOUR (e.g. 8pm) and GOLDEN AIRTIME (e.g. 8pm-10pm). If you do not have other means of entertainment but TV, then, you should at least just STOP WATCHING THE LYING NEWS !!!

ALL NEWSPAPERS ?
Most would ask : are all Newspapers lying? Well, at least those who read Chinese dailies may opposed. So far, the Chinese dailies have been covering lots of Opposition news, interviews and write-ups even though not in a complete balanced manner (not 50:50, but at least 60:40). They have no choice but to advertise BN's ads since they have been paid for. Also, their licenses were under the control of BN-led government. Nonetheless, their "daring" coverages on the Opposition have worried many that these Chinese dialies may faced "punishment" after the Election if BN win big again, just like the suspension happened to Sin Chew Daily in the 80's. In fact, Chinese dialies may be one of the main winning factors to the Opposition due to their fairer, wider and more independant news coverages - Opposition should thank them instead. At least the Chinese dialies could used words such as "BN Lost Terribly" and "5 States Given to Opposition" as their Headlines publicly.

ONLY A WEEK
What would you loose for not reading or watching unfair, bias, and lying news for a week? What would you gain from reading or viewing sad, disappointing, and heart-troubling stories for a week? Just for a week : 17-March to 23-March. As we could teach BN a lesson, we are sure that we can teach these MSM a lesson too.
Let's boycott the MSM together this week !!!

Double Standards Police

PENANG : UMNO STREET DEMO
Yesterday, 500 Penang UMNO members and supporters went on street demonstration at Komtar to protest against new Penang CM Lim Guan Eng's recent statement on abolishing the New Economic Policy (NEP). They were "allowed" to went on the street to air their grievances over the policy that only benefited the UMNOputras, rather than all Bumiputras.

SELANGOR : UMNO STREET DEMO
Also, 100 believed-to-be UMNO members and supporters also went on street demonstration with the Banners "Kerajaan Baru Selangor - Boneka Kepada DAP", "Terhapus DEB-Melayu Merempat Di Bumi Sendiri" and "Tahniah Melayu DAP Yang Berjaya Hapuskan DEB" around Shah Alam State Mosque yesterday. There were "allowed" to have this demonstration even though the banners were clearly racist and may jeopardise racial harmony.
POLICE : DOUBLE STANDARD
Despite of all these illegal, unlawful and racist demonstration, none of them was "welcomed" by water gun or tear gas. None was detained, none was charged, none was claimed to be terrorist, and none was locked up under ISA. They were given the "Freedom of Speech" and "Freedom to Gather" without permit despite of racial remarks were made.

While BERSIH made up of Rakyat from all races and various organizations including NGOs went on street last November to ask for clean and fair election, hundreds of roadblocks were setup and thousands of FRUs welcomed the Rakyat with tear gas and water gun.

When HINDRAF went on street to ask for basic rights as citizens, the Government caught many, detained the leaders under ISA, and even claimed peaceful Malaysians in HINDRAF as terrorists without evidence and lawful hearings.

Police working for the Rakyat or the UMNO?
"Freedom of Speech" allowed for all Rakyat or only UMNO members?
NEP benefiting only UMNOputras should retained?

Selangor State Officials Destroyed Document

News from Sin Chew Daily 2008-03-10 17:50

(Shah Alam) State Officials of former Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Mohamad Khir Toyo have returned to State Government Office to pack but also destroyed some official documents.

Newly appointed Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abd Khalid Ibrahim arrived at Level 19 the building at 2.35pm for a close-door meeting with the former State Secretary and Tresurer.

Around 3.15pm, there were 5 to 6 officers at Level 12 started to destroy some documents. Level 12 was believed to be the Admin & Management division.

Party members of PKR and DAP immediately rushed over to stop the activity, and insisted that these documents are state property therefore must be retained regardless of the contents.

After the "destroy-document" exercise was stopped, the documents were scattered everywhere. According to sources, some of them were minutes of meetings, and some were marked "confidential document".

Subang Jayan's General Election 2008 Awards

After the long, restless, and exciting 14-days of battles for General Election 2008, we are finally at the end of this battle. A new journey has begun as the Nation embarked on a new route - a new term without BN 2/3 Majority, a new term with 5 states under Barisan Harapan, a new term where all Malaysians are standing together for CHANGE!!!

As we ended the General Election 2008 journey here, we'd like to present the Subang Jayan's General Election 2008 Awards as a concluding chapter.

The Barisan Rakyat Category
Most Popular Victory
Undoubtedly, the Subang Jayan's Most Popular Victory Award winner is none other than our very own Hannah Yeoh (DAP), newly elected 29-years old ADUN for N31 Subang Jaya constituency, who has won with a great majority of 13851 votes. We now have a young, clean and crime-fighter ADUN representing us in Selangor State Assembly!

Most Unbelievable Victory
The made-popular candidate from Lingam's video, Loh Gwo-Burne (PKR) has defeated former ADUN of Subang Jaya, Lee Hwa Beng (MCA), with a majority of 5,031 votes in P104 Kelana Jaya constituency. Despite of inexperience in politic (and corruption), the man of integrity has won the Parliamentary seat which many claimed impossible for him to defeat the long-rooted, widely-known Lee Hwa Beng.

Most Glamourous Victory
Incumbent Teresa Kok (DAP) is again elected MP for P122 Seputeh constituency with a great majority of 36,492 votes (the highest in the nation), defeating new candidate Carol Chew Chee Lin (MCA) who insulted all Malaysian women with her sexist election posters. Terasa is also elected ADUN for N30 Kinrara constituency which also covers part of USJ area (USJ 16 onward). While she is marching in with the rest of the Opposition MPs into the Parliament, she is also marching in to the Selangor State Assembly as the Ruling Coalition.

Most Difficult Victory
Undeniable, one of the toughest battles of this election is at the P106 Petaling Utara battlefield where new candidate Tony Pua (DAP) is facing incumbent Chew Mei Fun and the heavy machineries of BN (especially MCA). Despite all the BN's promises, big gun's visits and jamuan makan malam, the Petaling Jayans have elected Tony Pua as their new MP! A day before the Election, we were even told that Tony Pua might not be able to make it due to BN / MCA unstoppable, continuous bombing! But he made it with a large majority of 19,972 votes.

Most Challenging Victory
The most-big-guns-visited and most-celebrities-visited constituency should be none other than P121 Lembah Pantai - for a simple reason : Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR) was the Candidate for its MP, and she is the daughter of former Deputy PM Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Both PM and Deputy PM plus many artists including Mawi have visited Lembah Pantai to help incumbent Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (Minister for Women, Family and Community Development). Nurul has to face lots of challenges as UMNO was doing all it could to stop Anwar and family to step foot in Parliament. Despite all the efforts, Nurul won by a majority of 2,895 votes.

Most Heart-Warming Victory
The Most Heart-Warming Victory Award must go to Manoharan Malayalam, the newly elected ADUN for N48 Kota Alam Shah. Despite of his absence from the constituency due to being unlawfully detained under ISA since Hindraf movement, the Rakyat of Kota Alam Shah have bravely stood up for him and voted him as their representative to the State Assembly with a significant majority of 7,184 votes! We salute to Kota Alam Shah!

Most Lonely Victory
Incumbent Chong Chieng Jen (DAP) is again elected MP for P195 Bandar Kuching constituency with a majority of 9,952 votes. However, he is the only Opposition Candidate that won a Parliamentary Seat in the state of Sarawak, that made him loneliest winner in Sarawak.

The Barisan Nasional Category
Nonetheless, there are some awards to be awarded to BN Candidates too, as Subang Jayans are always generous, not selfish and not stingy.

Most Popular Defeat
Incumbent Samy Velu (8-term MP, MIC President, Work Minister) was defeated on his birthday by new candidate Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj (PKR) with a majority of 1,821 votes in P62 Sg Siput constituency. Undoubtedly, all Subang Jayans (might be all Malaysians too) are cheering and celebrating for his defeat now. "Finally, he is gone!" Some would said. Unfortunately, he has just stated today that he'd not resign from MIC President post.
Most Unwanted Victory
Khairy Jamaluddin (Deputy Chief of UMNO Youth, Badawi's son-in-law) was elected MP by a small majority of 5,746 votes in P131 Rembau constituency (48,390 voters). With his corrupt reputation and arrogant attitude, what a great disaster to the Nation to have him in the Parliament! We wander who'd he jump at next?
Most Gentleman Defeat
Koh Soo Koon (former Penang Chief Minister, Gerakan Acting President) was defected by new candidate Ramasamy Palanisamy (DAP) with a majority of 9,485 votes in P46 Batu Kawan constituency. Also, Gerakan has lost all the seats contested in Penang. Yet, he has acted as a great gentleman by congratulating his opponent and DAP Penang State Chief openly also willing to take the responsibility by offering to step down. He also performed very steady and gentleman when he invited the press together with new Penang CM-to-be YB Lim Guan Eng in his office yesterday.

Here are the 10 Awards from us. If you have any other suggestion / proposal, please feel free to leave a comment.
