Subang Jayans, Let's Join Earth Hour 2008

SYDNEY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN 2007
On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE YOU CAN MAKE IN 2008
In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

SUBANG JAYANS, LET'S LEAD THE CHANGE
We'd like to invite all Subang Jayans to join us and this global conservation event. You can do the following from 8pm to 9pm on March 29 (Saturday):-

1. Turn off all the lights. You can come out to the street if you are scared of dark. In fact, it'd be a great scene from the air or tall building to see the whole Subang Jaya in darkness.
2. Turn off all air-conditioning and fan. You can go outside of the house / building if you need cool air.
3. Turn off TV / Astro / Radio / DVD / VCD and PC / Laptop and... whatever entertainment applicances. It'd be a good time to catch up with your family without these distractions.
4. Turn off any other electrical appliances that you'd not require to use.

Nonetheless, we do not encourage you to turn off your refrigerator because it will cause more electricity (hence more heat) when you turn on after an hour. It may take 15-30 minutes of "hardwork" (high usage of electricity) to "cool down" again.

Preserve our Environment for our Future and the Future Generations!

Glad to read about Earth Hour on this blog. Come to Bangsar, Lafuma shop to be exact. Raleigh International KL is supporting the cause by urging the whole Telawi area to shut off.

Read more about it here.

Sigh... went around USJ housing areas around Taipan between 8pm-9pm on our bikes : many houses still with their lights on from living room to car porch plus TV on loud and clear.

Anyway, saw some houses with lights totally off and chatting outside of their houses in USJ6 and USJ9. Thanks for supporting Earth Hour 2008!

Yohohoho, global warming, eh?

I don't believe we'll need to participate in this, Malaysia has always been some of the greenest country in the world, that is, high % of forest and low CO2 emission.

If ever, this kinda project is intended for USA, UK especially.

TOKMOH, everybody in this world has to play their role. Don't you feel our weather is getting worse and unpredictable this past decade?

By the way, Malaysian's GREEN ratio i.e. 60% is inclusive of all the plantations (e.g. rubber trees, palm trees)! Furthermore, we are staying in the cities where GREEN ratio is not 60%, probably way below 10%. Just look around where you stays!

we all must play a part. this is what we've done in Bangsar Lafuma shop for our part. Remember, every little bit counts! Let's make a difference.

Here's a attendee account of the event.

tokmoh, surely you jest? you only have to take a flight from KLIA to say, Penang and look out the window to see that the % of forest cover is in the single digit. The rest is either urban sprawl, plantations or raw red earth, like the wound it causes in my heart to think of the natural heritage Malaysia looses forever each moment BN remains in power.
